teacher and studentGetting started with Young People’s Geographies

If you like what you have read on this website, have a go at introducing young people's lived geographies into your geography curriculum.

We think you will find it worthwhile.

The project changed some teachers’ conceptions of what could be taught and learned in geography… The project changed some teachers’ conceptions of how young people can be involved in constructing their curriculum.

In this section we suggest some of the starting points for developing a young people’s geographies approach to curriculum development and teaching and learning in schools, as well as some examples and practical ideas.

The YPG approach provides a framework for individual teachers and whole departments.

Inevitably the YPG approach will mean changes to the way in which curriculum development, teaching and learning are thought about and organised: time, space, access to resources, what teachers and students do.

I want to know what young people want to look at in geography and to feed this into the KS3 curriculum.
