My school visit to see YPG in action

Had a fabulous day yesterday visiting Valley School in Worksop and see Y8 students 'doing YPG'. What a fantastic atmosphere as different groups and individuals worked away at the final stages of their work on CO2 emissions and food miles. They were dealing with some very complex ideas as well as very current and up-to-date sources from colleagues at Sheffield Hallam University (who are currently researching this issue). Exploring the CO2 issues associated with familiar recipes (such as flapjacks) seems to have been really exciting. I also like the ideas of their teacher making CO2 low scones and the students considering how different ingredient raise the CO2 emissions of the food that we eat (add raisins to a scone and this can have an interesting impact!).

The final presentations (which I hope will appear on this site very soon) were well planned, fun to watch and tied in a lot of big issues that the students had decided were important to them.

Thanks to you all for your hard wok and for such a great lesson.

It would be good to hear from Y8 about what they have thought of their work!
