Sheffield Meeting

Having got home from the Sheffield meeting I was inspired again by the whole YPG concept and set to writing a new scheme of work which can be used in pretty much any school I think, it focuses on perceptions of home areas and redevelopment and the future in the eyes of the young people we teach. I have passed it on the Mary to put on this site and anyone who fancies using it is welcome to it.

It's been taught to three of my year 7 classes so far and they're loving it ... They love the fact the a lot of the work takes into account their needs and ideas and it makes them feel like they're being given a voice.

From my point of view, I'm confident that valid Geography is being taught but in a way that's really engaging young people and making them look at the world they live in, in a completely new light - trouble shooting ... very interesting.

It was great to meet everyone at the Sheffield meeting (even if it did remind me just how long I've been teaching and ... how old I am ... meeting an ex-6th form pupil from my student teaching days, who's been a successful teacher for 5 years ...) it refreshed my energy for the project and gave me a bit of time to catch my breath and look at what I'm doing in the middle of such a long term.

I hope the other YPG projects are progressing nicely too.
